Mozilla Spaces around the world

There’s a certain magic in visiting places that shaped the digital world we live in today. When you look at the map of Mozilla Spaces around the world, it’s easy to assume those dots mark Mozilla’s official offices. But before all those stars popped up, there was one building that really mattered: 1981 Landings Drive, Building K.

When you’re standing there in person, you realize it’s more than coordinates—it’s the birthplace of a movement.

I still remember Pascal guiding us there. He spoke about the building, the people who once filled its halls, the hum of Highway 101 nearby, and even the Google canteen across the street. It wasn’t just a tour—it felt like stepping into a living memory. You can imagine the echoes of conversations that sparked ideas, the clatter of those old keyboards writing code that would change the web forever.

If you check the Mozilla Foundation entry on Wikipedia, you’ll even find a photo of it—just from a different angle.

A typical Sillicon Valey’s Startup back then.

Thank you very much again to Pascal for taking us there.

at the starting point 😛

This building once housed both the Mozilla Foundation and Mozilla Corporation, right up until July 2009. Some say it could have been Netscape’s old office, but for me, it feels like the birthplace of everything “Mozilla”—not just the browser, but the whole movement.

A Bit of History

  • Shared office space: Mozilla Foundation + Mozilla Corporation until 2009.
  • Location: 1981 Landings Drive, Building K, Bay Area.
  • Legacy: Considered the starting ground for Mozilla’s broader mission beyond Firefox.
  • Community stories: From highways and canteens to the people who built Mozilla’s culture.

For a deeper dive, Justin Dolske wrote a great blog post about the Bay Area history and how Mozilla’s San Francisco office came to be. It’s worth checking out if you’re curious about the roots of Mozilla’s presence in California.
